Bored of Michael Jackson yet? No? Really? What’s wrong with you? Well, OK, it’s probably a good thing that you’re not.
Because he’s still everywhere. Not in an omniscient, Jesusy kind of way, you understand – Michael Jackson is everywhere because people are still thwumping on about whether or not his death was down to manslaughter. There’s a chance that authorities will decide it is soon – and if charges are brought against him, Dr Conrad Murray has said that he’s ready to surrender himself to the police.
Obviously it’s far too early to speculate about the type of sentence that Murray would receive if he was found guilty of Michael Jackson’s manslaughter. Although, needless to say, it’s bound to include at least 30 minutes inside a locked room with Joe Jackson and his whippin’ belt.
Though sad, Michael Jackson’s death last year did teach the world a number of important lessons. Firstly, it taught us never to posthumously name Diana Ross as the guardian of our children, even as a joke. Secondly, it taught us that a sudden drug-related death is one way to untangle yourself from a dire financial situation. Thirdly – and most importantly – it taught us that if we’re ever going to die of a drug overdose, getting someone else to administer the drugs is probably the quickest way to absolve ourselves of any responsibility.
That’s probably why Dr Conrad Murray might regret ever being Michael Jackson’s doctor at the moment. Sure, he may have got plenty of money and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand around in a creepy old house surrounded by all kinds of tacky ornaments all shaped like Michael Jackson’s face, but the downside is that now he’s getting blamed for Michael Jackson’s death.
Since Michael Jackson overdosed on propofol last summer, Dr Conrad Murray has found himself being blamed for his death. He’s admitted to administering the drug, the death certificate points to homicide and Janet Jackson has singled him out for abuse. And because of all this, it looks like Murray is ready to give in. The LA Times reports:
A lawyer for Michael Jackson’s personal physician said Tuesday that the Houston-based doctor is in Los Angeles and prepared to surrender if authorities file charges against him in the pop star’s death. “I don’t have any specific information that leads me to believe he is going to be charged this week,” lawyer Ed Chernoff said, “but if he is, we’ve made it clear he’s available to turn himself in.”
Since prosecutors haven’t even given any indication that they’re going to charge Dr Conrad Murray with manslaughter, it’ll be interesting to see what happens from here. All that we ask is this – if the case does go to trial, could one of the star witnesses be that little crying boy from Britain’s Got Talent? We miss him. Thanks.
