2006 saw MySpace Trawl delve into the weird and wonderful of music that you out there in internetland possibly wouldn’t have heard of. Possibly. Over the last few months we’ve delved in to many different genres and looked at stuff we didn’t know existed.
Who knew that country music could actually be good and not fit the image of red-necked American? Phillious Williams showed us this. Who else knew that a couple of kids called Smoosh could make such happy pop songs despite not being old enough to buy ciggies? Singer-songwriters were also dong their own thing and not being sickly and boring like James Blunt. Thomas Truax gave us an incite it to his own musical creations, The Album Leaf did the one man band thing and Duke Special let the emotion in music flow.
On the dance/ electronic/ nu-rave/ old rave/ whatever you wanna call it front, Norwegian act Sirka Ragnar got us dancing around the office like morons and Glasgow’s Gay Against You incorporated computer game sounding squeaks and bleeps into their fast paced sound.
Elsewhere we got discovered the brutal and harsh sound of grindcore which pretty much involves a lot of fast guitar sounds and screaming. God bless Cutting Pink With Knives. Then Drumcorps took grindcore one step further and added elements of the genre breakcore to it, making it one crazy sound. We even looked at people who don't sing in the Queen's English! Dungen and his Swedish ways didn't bother us because it sounded good, and that's what counts!
Hopefully we’ll bring more stuff to you that is original and will make your music tastes that little bit better in 2007. Trust us when we bring these acts to you every week, for most of them have more talent then all the X Factor karaoke singers you see and they deserve some exposure, even if it's just here on hecklerspray. We already have some tasty stuff lined up to introduce you to, so prepare yourselves as we look at some established underground artists that just need poking through and – because we appreciate everything – we’ll look at the artists who have no record deal at all.
Just hold your horses now.
