It was hardly a huge surprise to see Claire King get eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday – we had wondered when the middle-aged male pervert vote would get over-powered by people actually voting for dancing quality and now we know.
On Saturday's Strictly Come Dancing Claire King somehow managed to perform her worst dance yet; she spent the entirety of her routine jerking around like a crash test dummy in a baby seat, and the judges scolded it for her. But now, free of having to dance every single weekend, Claire King can go ahead and return to being the slutty-looking woman who used to be on Emmerdale, while her Strictly Come Dancing partner Brendan Cole can go around being irritatingly sleazy to everyone he meets at times other than when we're trying to eat our tea.
But who's going to win Strictly Come Dancing? Here are the Strictly Come Dancing betting odds for Carol Smillie, Matt Dawson and Emma Bunton…
Carol Smillie – For a woman whose weekly highlight used to be showing a couple of idiots how badly a fop had arsed up their bedroom with some fake fur and a tin of pink paint, Carol Smillie can act quite the diva when the time calls for it. She'd spent all week complaining that the Strictly Come Dancing judges had been playing favourites with their scoring, which is hardly endearing to anyone at all, but then managed to win back everyone's favour by giving the old sour-faced bat shtick a rest and pulling of a sexy little waltz to If You Don't Know Me By Now that was the best thing we've seen Carol Smillie do since she posed for those nude pictures a decade ago. And, for once, the Strictly Come Dancing judges agreed with us, even if they didn't mention the nude photos. "You're no more the dark horse. You're a lady tonight!" they told her. SCORE: 30 – Current Strictly Come Dancing betting odds – 12/1
Matt Dawson – Over the last few weeks, Matt Dawson has bloomed from an awkward embarrassed bloke plodding around a stage to man comfortable with dressing up in sparkly shirts and expressing himself solely through the graceful movements of his body. Perhaps attempting a jive routine to a James Brown song was a step too far, though – his Strictly Come Dancing routine on Saturday was just plain weird to look at. It's almost as if Matt Dawson has tipped over the edge from self-conscious shuffler to flat-out Dad-at-wedding over-exuberance. Somewhere within all the high-kicks, arm-waggling and spinning round, Matt Dawson managed to chuck away any credibility he'd built up thus far, even if the Strictly Come Dancing judges were too polite to tell it to him outright, instead saying "If anyone had told me you could do a presentable Latin dance, I wouldn't have believed them." We're still waiting to be convinced. SCORE: 28 – Current Strictly Come Dancing betting odds 13/2
Emma Bunton – On last week's Strictly Come Dancing, Emma Bunton bit off a little more than she could chew, and she wasn't able to get a proper dance routine together between turning on some Christmas lights and singing that weedy Children In Need song all the time. As a result she was nearly kicked off Strictly Come Dancing, but this week she went out of her way to pull herself back into the competition with an American Smooth routine to Anything Goes that she somehow made good without feeling the need to grab hold of her boobies a lot. And the Strictly Come Dancing judges loved it too, even namechecking a bleakly realistic comic book in the process: "This was not American Smooth, it was American Splendour!" Is this enough to push Emma Bunton back into the Strictly Come Dancing running again? Who's to say, although if a Bunton win holds off a Spice Girls reunion, we'd happily vote ourselves bankrupt. SCORE: 34 – Current Strictly Come Dancing betting odds – 5/1
